TriHealth Partners With Phox Health to Build a More Patient-Centered Medication Delivery Experience

TriHealth, one of Greater Cincinnati’s leading integrated health systems, has partnered with Phox Health to strengthen the medication delivery experience for patients and pharmacy teams.

The partnership brings together PhoxOS, TRAX, and PhoxTail, with plans to introduce GreenPhox for reusable cold-chain delivery.

But the decision to partner with Phox Health was about more than adding another delivery provider.

TriHealth was looking for a different kind of last-mile experience, one that could give patients more support after their medication leaves the pharmacy and give pharmacy teams greater visibility into what happens next.

When Delivery Becomes Part of the Patient Experience

For a patient waiting on an important medication, delivery is not simply the final logistical step. It is still part of their experience with the pharmacy.

That distinction mattered to TriHealth.

Traditional national carrier networks can move packages efficiently, but TriHealth wanted a model designed around the needs of healthcare: clearer communication, greater visibility, more responsive patient support, and workflows that work alongside the pharmacy rather than separately from it.

That is where Phox Health’s approach was different.

Before launch, the Phox Health team spent time understanding how TriHealth’s pharmacy teams manage orders, coordinate deliveries, communicate with patients, and handle exceptions.

The goal was not to force a new workflow into the pharmacy. It was to build the delivery operation around the workflow already there.

“Phox Health has been an incredible benefit to our patients and our business! They have alleviated our biggest problem, which used to be lost or delayed shipments from FedEx.

Phox Health has proactively identified incorrect addresses, re-routed shipments, and returned to addresses after a missed delivery attempt. Phox Health has improved our quality of patient care as well as cutting our delivery costs. They have listened to our suggestions about process improvements and implemented many of them.

Phox Health’s customer service is unmatched compared to most of our other partners! They sent multiple representatives to help us with onboarding, which made the roll out very smooth.

The PhoxTail process is very easy, especially compared to FedEx. I was able to get a PhoxTail claim approved in a single day with no pushback, whereas FedEx required multiple rounds of submissions and typically took 1-2 months.

I would highly recommend Phox Health to anyone who ships medications to patients!”

Giving Pharmacy Teams More Visibility After Dispatch

Through PhoxOS and TRAX, TriHealth can manage its medication delivery operation with greater visibility from dispatch through delivery.

Instead of the last mile becoming a separate process once a medication leaves the pharmacy, the technology and managed operations create a more connected workflow between the pharmacy, delivery team, and patient.

For pharmacy teams, that means better insight into active deliveries and fewer gaps in communication.

For patients, it means having clearer information about their delivery and access to Phox Health’s Patient Advocates when they need help.

Our Patient Advocates are a dedicated support team built specifically around the delivery experience, helping answer patient questions and resolve issues without automatically pushing that work back to the pharmacy.

“What makes healthcare delivery different is everything surrounding the package,” said Puneet Jain, Co-Founder & President of Phox Health. “The medication matters, but so does the handoff, the visibility, the patient communication, and what happens when something does not go exactly as planned. With TriHealth, we are building those pieces into the operation from the beginning rather than treating them as an afterthought.”

Protecting High-Value Medications Beyond the Front Door

TriHealth is also using PhoxTail, which provides cost protection for eligible high-value medications up to $60,000.

For specialty pharmacy operations, that adds another layer of protection around medications where the financial and patient consequences of a failed delivery can be significant.

It reflects a broader philosophy behind the partnership: healthcare logistics should account not only for whether a medication was delivered, but also for the operational, financial, and patient risks surrounding that delivery.

Rethinking Cold-Chain Waste

The next phase of the partnership is expected to include GreenPhox, Phox Health’s reusable cold-chain logistics solution.

Cold-chain delivery traditionally depends heavily on single-use cardboard boxes, Styrofoam, ice packs, and other packaging materials. GreenPhox was developed as a reusable alternative designed to reduce that packaging waste while supporting temperature-sensitive medication delivery.

For TriHealth, Phox Health’s work around sustainability was another important part of the partnership.

It introduced an opportunity to improve the patient delivery experience while also reconsidering one of the most waste-intensive parts of specialty pharmacy logistics.

“TriHealth is thinking about the last mile in a very complete way,” said Amit Gir, MD, Co-Founder, Chairman & CEO of Phox Health. “They are looking at the patient experience, the pharmacy workflow, how high-value medications are protected, and even the waste created by cold-chain delivery. That is exactly the kind of partnership we want to build, one where logistics becomes an extension of the care experience.”

A Different Standard for the Last Mile

TriHealth provides care across an integrated network that includes multiple hospitals and departments like Hospice and Weight Management throughout Greater Cincinnati.

As health systems continue expanding care beyond the hospital and pharmacy, medication delivery increasingly becomes one of the touchpoints connecting patients back to that broader care experience.

The partnership between TriHealth and Phox Health is designed around that reality.

Not simply getting medication moved from one place to another, but creating a last mile with better visibility for pharmacy teams, better communication for patients, greater protection for high-value therapies, and a more sustainable approach to cold-chain delivery.

Because the delivery may happen outside the pharmacy. But it is still part of the patient experience.
